Focal Design Studio is a young architecture firm founded by four partners, each with award-winning experience. Collectively, they look to create meaningful and intentional work driven by purpose. For them, architecture is shaped by the specific history, culture, ecology and people it serves.
They were looking to represent all of this, plus their work ethic, design process, and talent in one website – with a minimalist aesthetic.
The home page immediately puts you on site or in the renderings of some of their most successful projects. The full bleed visual leaves little to be distracted by other than what was absolutely necessary.
Soon these sliders will also have video with motion only within the natural movement of plants, trees, shadows to highlight how the structure interacts with its environment.
The project pages were intended to represent the experience of a portfolio book in digital form. Placement of negative space, margins and text here were important as to not simply feel like a 'collage' of imagery but to guide you through the design process of the work and its outcome.
The purpose of a website for this architecture firm is a tool to establish at a high level who Focal is, while leaving the viewer wanting to learn more.
